Today we will explore the scientific method during class lecture/discussion. You will have a bit of homework, and your 1st quiz tomorrow! If you were absent, use the links below to get the class handouts and homework assigned.

Manipulating Data - eMac Lab
In today's lab you will learn how to sort data so that graph's of it accurately model what's going on - make sense (hopefully!). If you were absent, download a copy of the lab activity here and make it up during your advisory as soon as possible.

Today you will come up with your final research question. Remember, projects may be done independently, or in groups of no more than 3 students.

Watch the video. Try to keep up as you fill in missing words in the movie outline. If you miss some (not a lot - some!), you can ask for them during class discussion of what we viewed.

Visualizing the Expansion of the Universe
This lab activity compares the positions of galaxies today to where they were a billion years ago - illustarting an important technique used by astronomers to estimate the age of our universe.
Tuesday
Origins: Back to The Beginning DVD
Explores the origins of our universe - how the cosmic background radiation was investigated by 2 different teams. You were assigned either to the CBI or the WMAP team and will do an oral presentation on Thursday to explain what your team did.
Wednesday
eMac Lab - Latitude and Hours of Daylight Spreadsheet
Use the handout provided and Appleworks spreadsheet software to create a stacked bar graph showing the relatinship between latitude and average hours of daylight. If you were absent you will need to see me for a copy of the data.

The Solar Sea - Guided Viewing
Watch the video. Learn about our Sun. Fill out the Guided Viewing movie outline. If you were absent, download and print a copy of the worksheet from the link below and copy in the information you missed from a friend's worksheet.

Solar Science Magazine Article Summary
You will find an article relating to some aspect of our sun, read it, summarize it, and provide a literature citation for it using correct MLA format. Use the Reader's Guide to Periodic Literature to find your article - not an internet search engine!

Salinity of the Oceans Internet Search Activity Go to this URL ( ) and copy and paste the questions found there to a MS Word document. Then use search engines like Ask Jeeves and Google to find the answers. BE SURE you write answers in your own words. Also, wherever possible, use data provided to make graphs to help explain your answers.
