Guided Viewing- Project Mercury NASA Documentary This video presentation has no worksheet. Students took notes on what they viewed. If you were absent you will need to research Project Mercury online so that you understand what the mission goals were, and what was accomplished.

This eMac lab explores how digital images are processed to give us clear representations of the surface of Mars. If you were absent you will need to get a copy of the lab guide from me and do the activity during your advisories.

EM Radiation - Powerpoint Lecture

We will begin a more in-depth study of how astronomers use light to understand our universe. If you were absent you will need to watch this powerpoint slide show and get notes from a friend (or write some down yourself!).

 

November 18th (Friday)

Black Hole!

This video explores the mysteries of one of the most exotic objects in our universe - black holes! Write down 6 "cool" things you see as you watch the film. Be prepared to talk about what you saw on Monday! If you were absent I will excuse you from this assignment.

 

November 21st (Monday)

Stars You Can't See

In this NIH IMage lesson we will explore how scientists use wavelengths of EM radiation invisible to us to reveal hidden secrets of the universe!

 

November 22nd (Tuesday)

Blackholes!

...and other mysteries of the cosmos. Class discussion of Friday's video will lead into a discussion of the exotic objects found in our universe. Also....The Cosmos-Past & Present Reading w/questions.

 

November 23rd (Wednesday)

Review- Intro to Cosmology Today's reading will explore the beginnings of our universe.

Visualizing the Expansion of the Universe

This lab activity compares the positions of galaxies today to where they were a billion years ago - illustrating an important technique used by astronomers to estimate the age of our universe.

 

December 6th (Tuesday)

Origins: Back to The Beginning DVD

Explores the origins of our universe - how the cosmic background radiation was investigated by 2 different teams. You were assigned either to the CBI or the WMAP team and will do an oral presentation on Thursday to explain what your team did.

 

December 7th (Wednesday)

Origins: Where Are The Aliens DVD

Watch the film. Write a 3-paragraph essay on the possibility of life in the universe.
